Peter and Mary have been country-based all their lives. Gregerious and outgoing, they enjoy entertaining in their home. Peter has looked after the family estate for several years, following his career in farm and land management which included a spell in the middle east. He also has vast experience in the corporate entertainment business. Mary is involved in interior design, in which she has run her own business for twenty years, working throughout the British Isles. They have seven grandchildren between them.

They take great interest in the artists and poets involved in the area - especially those of historical significance, such as J. S. Cotman, J. M. W. Turner , Sir Walter Scott and John Ruskin.

Charles Dickens is thought to have stayed the night at The George (original C17th name of house) on his way to Bowes, where he wrote Nicholas Nickleby. Sir Walter Scott stayed at neighbouring Rokeby Hall, which is open to visitors during the summer.

For Horse Racing, Race-goers can enjoy several good flat and jump meetings in the area throughout the year, including York, Ripon, Catterick, Sedgefield and Newcastle. The area is also blessed with many golf courses.

One of our permanent guestsThe farm on the estate is partially let but the grassland is retained, offering an ideal venue for marquee Weddings and other outdoor activities such as Corporate Entertainment and activity days on the banks of the river.
